The Leachate Loophole Coalition is led by New York River Watch and is a growing network of environmental organizations and community groups working together to address the pollution risks created by gaps in New York State’s landfill leachate regulations. The coalition meets most months to share information, coordinate action, support communities impacted by leachate pollution, and advocate for stronger protections for New York’s waterways and drinking water sources.

Coalition members bring a range of expertise and experience—from environmental justice and community organizing to water protection, waste policy, and scientific research. While participation varies based on organizational capacity and priorities, members contribute by joining coalition discussions, taking action, sharing resources, and supporting communities on the ground that are directly affected by landfill leachate pollution.

Together, the coalition is working to close the Leachate Loophole, ensure stronger regulatory protections, advance science-based solutions, and build a statewide movement to protect New York’s rivers, lakes, and drinking water.
